Crispy Apple Spiced Donuts
2 eggs
2 Tbsp. melted butter
1 C. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. ginger
1 C. apple cider (or milk)
4 C. flour
Beat eggs in deep bowl with fork. Gradually add butter and sugar, continuing to stir vigorously. Combine flour, baking powder and spices. Add to egg mixture alternating with apple juice, beginning and ending with flour and beating well after each addition. Cover bowl and refrigerate at least 20 min. Line a baking sheet w/ waxed paper. Cut off half the dough and roll out on lightly floured surface to about ½ inch thick. Cut with donut cutter and transfer to pans. Fry in 375 degree oil in deep fryer, cooking a few donuts at a time. Turn with slotted spoon till puffed and brown. Drain on paper towels.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar or a cinnamon sugar mix.
We also cut up an apple, mixed it in with the last little bit of dough and made some apple fritters–yum!
Have you ever tried baking these instead of frying them? I ask because I just got a donut maker that bakes the doughnuts and this recipe sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteFound you buy your post on cheese pinterest... On these donuts did you have to use much oil for frying? I just have a large fry daddy do you think that will work?they look really yummy..
