Writing on your door frames *Plus a freebie and Giveaway!*

"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates. " Deut. 6:5-9

Would a stranger walking into your house be able to tell what you believe without you having to say a word?  Do you have scripture visible in your house for teaching your children?  What do your walls "say" about your family? Do your door frames (or walls, or mirrors) declare the Lord?

For too many years my walls were bare or contained haphazardly placed random pictures.  My fridge was usually buried under kids "artwork", but it usually went from the fridge to the trash.  One day another mom and I were discussing the above verse and the importance of having scripture visible in our households, not just for teaching our children, but for our own encouragement, and as a reflection of what we believed to anyone who walked through our doors.  We vowed to be intentional in what we placed on our walls.

Since we moved into our new house last summer, I have been struggling to figure out exactly what I wanted.  Inspiration finally struck and I have been busily trying to put it all together.  My goal is for the wall to speak for itself about what is important in our lives--our faith and our family. I wanted to incorporate our family "theme" verse:

 Phillipians 4: 8
 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."

I am very happy with the way it turned out! What do you think?

I would love to win this! :-) I would put it in my living room. I'm actually memorizing your family verse at the moment, so I'm excited about the pdf file you offered. I have the perfect spot for the vinyl cutting, though;-) Right over the TV, to remind us of our priorities! :-)

Hey i liked you on facebook ( i think i did anyway), computers are a mystery to me sometimes...i would hang it in my bedroom, not exactly public but would be great to start the day with reading a verse without even picking up my scriptures but germany is a little out of the way to send...andrea

I have been using Scripture for years in our home. One way that I have done this is to write "calligraphy" style on our window sills and chair railings. In our entryway, we have chair railing half way up on each way. I have Psalm 101:2-4,and Galatians 5:22 on the other. I have the names of Jesus on our mantle over the fireplace, "Savior, Lamb of God, Immanuel, Prince of Peace, Alpha and Omega,Morning Star, Holy One, Redeemer, Jesus. On the window sill above our bed I have a verse from Song on Solomon - I am my beloved and he is mine, his banner over me is love. I would love to have this for our sons room. Thank you for your blog. I have so enjoyed it!!! I will be watching for another giveaway for you cookbook. God bless you and your family!!!

What a beautiful arrangement! The only scripture I've got on my walls are vintage plaques & pictures that I've found in thrift stores. I would LOVE to update our living room with something like this! :)
